They Loose and Steal Your Luggage and Never Compensate You

Please do not believe any of what Qatar Airways or Airline Qatar puts in their web site.  The Airline Qatar lures the passengers with cheaper fares, and  then collectes more in excess charges Qatar Airways puts on any luggage above 20 kilograms.  Moreover, Qatar Airways never acknowledges passengers' lost luggage, returns or compensates for.  The information posted on this web site is my personal experience with the Arabian airline, Qatar Airways, which labels itself as a five star airline but in reality deserves less than one.

I lost my luggage  travelling from Beijing China to Istanbul Turkey,  through Doha, on Qatar Airways / Airline Qatar On October 4, 2007.
I checked in with two pieces of luggage:

• The first piece weighed 7 kilograms (15 pounds), and the claim ticket given to me by the Beijing Airline Qatar ground crew was QR 338006.  When this luggage arrived to Istanbul, I found out that the number on the label around the luggage was switched to a different number - it was QR 337651.  In these times of heightened security and airline terrorists Qatar Airways violates the basic security procedures which can be disastrous.

• The other piece of luggage weighed 31.5 kilograms (70 pounds).  The claim ticket for this luggage assigned by Airline Qatar was QR 338007.  The ground crew in Beijing insisted that I must pay $460 US dollars for the 11.5 Kilograms excess weight, which exceeded the allowable 20 kilograms.  When I demanded an explanation for this excess charges, Qatar Airways crew reduced the fee to $300 US Dollars.   Although I paid the dues, this piece of luggage never made it to Istanbul Airport and remains one of many lost luggage Qatar Airways' passengers experienced before.

I lost thousands of dollars in memorabilia, gifts, camera equipment, clothes, personal and sentimental items, cash as well as 15 rolls of films and pictures.   All my efforts to retrieve my luggage or get compensated for it were in vain, and went without a response.  I filed a complaint with the Property Irregularity Office of the Airline Qatar Airways, I filed a report with the Istanbul Airport Complaint Dept. and had a Turkish attorney send a certified letter to the Airline Airways Qatar in Istanbul.   I also sent three e-mails to their headquarters in Qatar with copies of my complaints.   No acknowledgment or response was ever received.

What makes matters worse is that the manager, of the  Property Irregularity Office of the Airline flight Qatar Airways in Istanbul, tried to offer me another passenger's lost luggage as a substitute.  This luggage was a small bag weighing 10.3 Kilograms (23 pounds).   I refused to touch a bag that did not belong to me.  Again, in these times of airline terrorism such behavior could have severe consequences.  Moreover, this is real proof of this Airline Airway Qatar total disregard to its passengers' belongings.

In addition to the poor luggage handling, services on board the airline flight Qatar were horrible.  The contaminated food served on this Arabian airline can make one very ill.   As soon as I reached Istanbul, I became sick and had to go to a hospital for treatment.  It took me seven days to recover.

I had no option but to take Qatar Airways to the Civil Court in New York City and I won the case whereby Qatar Airways has to pay over $1900.  I appealed this  judgment to the Supreme Court which sided with the Lower Court.  Since that Airways failed to pay after a month, I had to file a collection with the New York Sheriff who will seek the payment from Qatar's bank account.

That was the first and last time I will use this Airline Airway flight Qatar Airways.  Please tell your friends and If you have any questions or comments, please click on this link
